How much energy do you have during the day? Do you get up feeling rested and ready to take on the world that day? Successful people have boundless energy. Here are five ways to help you take those steps towards your goals and dreams!
- Plan
Get super clear about what you want and WHY! Having goals is wonderful, but you need to take action steps daily to attain them. Having great goals brings you energy because you have a mission, your passion for getting up and living.
Set goals in different areas in your life such as: career, family, finances, social, health and fitness, personal growth and spiritual growth. Then set goals for one, three, five and/or ten years. Take a look at the big picture and then break it down to goals you can attain over the next three months, six months and the first year. I know some people who have twenty year goals, and they have it written down on paper so they can look at it daily.
Always write everything down. Writing things down brings greater clarity and helps to generate ideas.
- Regular Exercise
There are numerous studies on the benefits of exercise. So, no surprise that exercise boosts energy!
Plan your exercises, and write them in your calendar. Do various types of exercise. Make sure you have cardio, weight training and stretching as part of your routine. Hire a personal trainer if that gets you where you want to be in the next few years.
Personally, I exercise daily. However, many successful people I know exercise five days per week. Figure something out that works for you and what goals you want to achieve.
- Healthy Diet
The better food you eat, the more energy you will have. What you eat can affect your income. For example, if you feel tired in the afternoon because you had a heavy lunch, you will not be as productive or creative. That costs you time. Time you could be pursuing your goals.
Drink plenty of water! Portion control your meals, and do not eat after seven pm. Look into intermittent fasting, as there are numerous types and benefits. And stick to eating live foods, avoiding packaged and fast foods.
- Take breaks
Being productive and making sure you are protecting your boundless energy helps you get you to your dreams. However, everyone needs to re-fuel and re-energize with taking breaks. You do not want to keep going and ‘hit a wall’, as they say. Also, it is not healthy to continually perform at your peak, to realize you will crash later because you did not take the time to break.
Taking strategic breaks helps you protect your productivity because it makes sure you will continuously have energy for your tasks. Yes, I know there are people out there that will look at this and say, “I can’t afford to take a break.” I ask you, how can you afford not to for your well-being and your dreams?
Elite athletes know that taking breaks from exercise is when they grow. When you work out you tear muscle fibers, but when you break is when you repair and grow them to strengthen more. This can be applied to productive work. Be productive, get your action steps done, and then take a break.
Breaks should be applied daily. Take some time for yourself on a daily basis. Also, take longer breaks once a month, or every six weeks. Maybe take an extended vacation every quarter. See what fits your lifestyle best.
- Work on yourself (get up early!)
Internal work is imperative to your dreams. Get to know yourself. Journal and meditate. Take that time for yourself. The people we revere in history as our ‘heroes’ all knew the value of solitude.
Getting up early is a great time to do the work on yourself. No one is around, and the world is quiet. Take that time to reflect and write down what you want. What do you want to stand for? How do you want to live your life? What are your core values?
Taking the time to plan your dreams, exercise, eat a healthy diet, take breaks and work on yourself each morning are great ways to help boost and keep your energy going. Remember, successful people have boundless energy. Keep your energy alive!
