There are many self-help books and many books on law of attraction. I have read many of them myself. Just this past week I read a few books on manifesting and it got me thinking that I have not done creative visualization in a long time. If you have not learned about it yet, it is a fantastic way to create what you want in your life.
“We are what we believe we are.” – C.S. Lewis
Like many others, Mr. Lewis is correct. What we think we attract. What we believe we become.
Mr. Masaru Emoto claimed that the human consciousness could affect the molecular structure of water. He has several volumes of work in “Messages from Water” containing photographs of ice crystals. There is also the 30 day ‘rice in water’ experiment. I would suggest trying this. I have done so with colleagues at the office and it is awesome to see the results!
Take two jars of rice in water. Place them in separate areas, or rooms. Speak positive statements and affirmations to one for 30 days, and speak negatively to the other for 30 days. See what happens!
Yes, I know this is not a randomized controlled trial. However, it is interesting to see the results. I do not want to spoil it for you. So try it yourself!
Now, remember, the human body is made mostly of water. If we can influence the outcome of water with what we think, then why not influence the outcome of what we want with what we think? Many people say yes! And, if you look around, there are examples of it everywhere.
So why do creative visualization?
Firstly, what is it?
Creative visualization is a process in which you visualize, think of day-dreaming, what you want to happen.
Secondly, how can it help you?
It can help people in different ways. For some it is a way to learn more about themselves. What do I want? What is important to me? You become more aware of your wants and needs. It can help you concentrate and focus. For others, who know what they want, it is a way to create and manifest more in their lives.
People are capable of visualizing more than they are currently aware of. When you are upset or happy about some circumstance or someone, you reflexively begin to visualize and think about what is going to happen. Essentially you are creative visualizing. All you have to do is direct it to something you want. Remember, we attract what we think about, but it is important to note that the feeling behind what you want is what you are going to see manifest in your experience.
Have you ever found yourself feeling one way, but what comes out of your mouth is something different. Or you just don’t believe what you said?
Creative visualization can help you; however, you have to put feeling behind the thoughts.
- Visualize and believe it!
You do this every day. Learn to direct it. Write down something you know you want. Not something huge, like winning the lottery. Something simple to show yourself it works. Sit quietly for a few minutes in the morning and visualize how it feels, what is happening when you have it? How do you feel? What are you doing?
Do it again at the end of the day before bed. Visualizing before bed allows your subconscious to process while you are sleeping. Then you are more likely to wake up in the same state you went to bed in.
I play games like this a lot. I often ask for the song I want on the radio, or that I will find some cash lying around that day. I visualize how I feel. The song is blasting on the radio in my car, it is a sunny day and I am smiling and happy. I found a five dollar bill lying in the parking lot. I pick it up and dance around. I feel the money in my hand…etc. I began playing this game to prove to myself it works. Then I moved onto applying the same ideas to larger things. And the best part, that worked too!
Now disclaimer: the larger things I wanted to manifest, like paying off credit card debt and going on vacation. That required thousands of dollars to manifest. Did I believe it at the beginning? Sadly, not much; but I worked at it, and the best part is, it still worked!
One particular story is wonderful. I was at a seminar on goal setting and the woman who was running the work-shop had everyone stop and take five minutes to do one action step. This step was to help propel you forward in what you wanted to achieve. So, unlike everyone there who started writing an email, or calling someone up for a business meeting, I sat in my chair with my eyes closed and meditated what I wanted. The funny part is that I was so sick of building my business at that point, that all I wanted to do was take a freakin’ break. So I did.
After my five minutes were up, there was a bathroom break. I checked my phone to find out my husband was at the casino because he got off work early and was there to see a friend. So he tried his luck at a machine and won $16,000.00. So, I got my vacation!
I believed it would happen and I was not sure how, but it manifested. Remember, you are not in control of how what you want is going to show up, but you have to believe it.
Give your visualization sensation, depth, colour, touch, sound. The more specific you get, the better it will be. I read a book titled, ‘How To Win The Lottery With Law Of Attraction: Four’, it goes into how creative visualizing was used by all the people who won the lottery (in that book). I would recommend reading this book when you get a chance.
- Feel it! Try Affirmations.
You have to feel what you are creating. In your mind, how do you feel? If you feel like it is not going to happen, then it will not. If you feel and believe ‘in your gut’ this can happen, then that is the one you want to focus on.
Affirmations are wonderful too. An affirmation is a statement that is short, concise and evokes feeling within you.
“It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.” – Muhammad Ali
Choose affirmations on what you want to see change in your life. There are affirmations about improving body image, about self-love, about money. Pick some that resonate with you and repeat them daily.
- Do it daily.
The Universe loves persistency. The more you do something, the more likely it will occur. It is also because you are continually putting in the effort, or action, that you reap the reward.
- Gratitude
The more grateful you are the more abundance comes your way. Being grateful is one of the highest feelings you can attain. When you are grateful, you send out a message that you appreciate what you have. Then the Universe matches it, and gives you more.
- Try a vision or dream board.
If you find it hard to sit and begin creative visualizations, try creating a dream board to get started. Find photos on the internet, or in magazines. Print them off or cut them out, respectively, and glue them to a huge board. Some people use a cork board and pin up things they want. Put whatever you want on the board, whatever you want in your life. Pick photos that bring up feelings for you. I have a vision board in the hallway at home. It has pictures of people I would like to meet in my life. Pictures of different places I want to visit, such as Africa, Scotland and Greece. I have pictures of people who look healthy and are running. I have a picture of my perfect dream kitchen. Pick whatever you like. It is your life after all!
When you have all the photos of what you want in your life up like a collage. Take time each day to look at it. Dream, visualize, where you are and what you are doing. Best of all, have fun with it!
“And when you want something, all the Universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” – Paul Coelho
